<i>Nannochloropsis</i> genus is distributed worldwide in marine, fresh, and brackish waters. Apart from a high-fat content, <i>Nannochloropsis</i> has been proposed as a pigment source of chlorophyll, zeaxanthin, canthaxanthin and astaxanthin.
