During 2018 California suffered several catastrophic wildfires, resulting in loss of life and damage to private property and the natural environment.

Around 14000 firefighters battled these fires, including more than 2000 prisoners.

Inmates were rewarded economically ( 1$ per hour 2$ per day ) and their sentences were reduced. The work is similar to the hotshots ( firefighters specialised in wildland fires). Their mission it is to contain the fire.

A lot of this prisioners fire fighters will not be able to carry on this missions after there prision time. Having gone through prision will not allow them to take part in the in the necessary training / qualifications to become a fire fighter.

Undortunately these individuals will not be able to work in such a rolles after the prision time. If you have a prision background you are not able to take the necessary courses and qualifications to become a firefighter.
