Mobilisations in Venice during 2018. The authorities try to control the crowds of tourists by installing “gates” at strategic points in the city. The idea is not to block tourists getting into the city but to re channel the flow of tourism to less crowded areas. In the image we can see local activists trying to remove one of these check points and confronting police officers. Activists argue that Venice is suffering  on a structural from the multitude of tourists. They disagree with the managing strategy taken by the city. “This is not Disney Land, this is our home “ yelled one activist while attacking the “gates”.
